Well, the new official trailer for Ralph Breaks the Internet has come out.

And... well, I'm half-excited, half-concerned.
--
I guess perhaps we should take a closer look at the details of the trailer.

I managed to take screenshots of scenes from the trailer to display on here to briefly talk about them.
--
First, let's take a look at scenes of the world of the internet.

Despite being a whole land of product placement... as interpreted by Disney, it does look impressive!

Look at that; there's Amazon.

Oh, and look: the little Twitter area, which, of course, is infested by little blue tweeting birds. And what are they tweeting about?
GRUMPY CAT!!! Grumpy Cat makes an appearance in this trailer! And all the twitters are tweeting about it (see what I did there?)!
I don't know if this Grumpy Cat is actually animated by Disney themselves or if these are actual photos of Grumpy Cat (must be animated since the rest of the world is animated).

We get to see other properties and companies and sites, such as Snapchat, Facebook, YouTube, Google, IMDb, and........ myspace? Do people still use that?

This is actually something I should compare to The Emoji Movie. Even though The Emoji Movie did it first, what with the sites and stuff, they mostly kept it phone-based, what with the apps and such. In this film, this is an ENTIRE CITY, an entire network designed as a massive city with buildings and stores and such. So this is one big difference compared to The Emoji Movie's version of networking. The sites are designed as buildings, stores and such, which, while not that original, is still done cleverly.

The original concept art for the film showed made-up names for the sites on the internet in order for Disney to avoid copyright infringement, even though The Emoji Movie managed to get away with all of it since the film was nothing BUT product placement. But now, I guess as time passed, Disney either got the rights to use the brand names or the brand names decided to get in on this and have Disney do a bunch of advertising for them through this film.

They at least still do keep a few traditional Disney elements even when making pop-cultural elements, like this character who is a personification of autofill.
Screenshot 20180604-132309 by JIMENOPOLIX
He looks like a classic Disney character, as well as sounds like one. He's also voiced by Alan Tudyk, who voiced King Candy in the last film. And where with King Candy he did sort of an Ed Wynn (Mad Hatter) voice impersonation, here he seems to be doing a Bill Thompson (Mr. Smee) voice impersonation. He's supposed to be a personification of autofill, where he reads the first part of what you're gonna say and autofills it with certain titles or names or phrases.

And now, let's get to the more controversial part of the trailer.
And when I say "controversial", I don't mean "bad" but rather the part where the most concerns are raised.

Vanellope goes into the Oh My Disney site, where EVERYTHING DISNEY is located, even the properties they bought up!

Screenshot 20180604-132320 by JIMENOPOLIX

And, OH MY DISNEY, look at all the Disney Easter eggs and properties they've put up in one scene alone!
Screenshot 20180604-130558 by JIMENOPOLIX

Let's see how many Disney elements we can make out in this one screenshot:
  • Disney Animation
  • Disney movie posters
  • DUMBO!
  • Star Wars
  • Death Star
  • R2D2
  • Big Hero 6 characters
  • KERMIT THE FROG
  • The Muppets
  • Pixar Animation Studios
  • Eve
  • The Luxo, Jr. ball
  • Luxo, Jr. himself
  • Andy's room's cloud wallpaper
  • The UP house
  • The Good Dinosaur (because we know how well-loved that movie is, right?)
  • Marvel
  • Iron-Man
  • Iron-Man's arm
  • Captain America's shield
  • And, look, Sorcerer Mickey is at the top of the Sorcerer Hat! I don't know if he's traditionally animated or CGI, but it's awesome to see Mickey up there! I wonder if that's the real Mickey, or a hologram? And if he happens to be in here, I wonder if he could have a cameo appearance or even a role.

  • Also, is that the Clock Tower from Peter Pan in the back?

And there's STILL more content to explore!

Here's a screenshot of ALL the Disney Princesses (even the ones who are barely princesses)!
Screenshot 20180604-133118 by JIMENOPOLIX

LOOK! EEYORE!!!
Screenshot 20180604-130614 by JIMENOPOLIX

STORM TROOPERS!!! (And Kermit the Frog's head in the back!)
Screenshot 20180604-130743 by JIMENOPOLIX

And yet another screenshot with a mashup of several different properties... oddly enough, stuff Disney didn't even create or own until now!
Beaker (Muppets), Storm Troopers (Star Wars), Captain America's shield (Marvel)!
Screenshot 20180604-130751 by JIMENOPOLIX

Man, this whole half of the trailer is just DRENCHING with Disney and Disney-owned properties!
--
Which brings us to the most hyped up part of the trailer... Vanellope running into the Disney Princesses, old and new... and Pixar... and those who are barely princesses...

Screenshot 20180604-130818 by JIMENOPOLIX

You all know this scene. You've all seen the screenshot.
Screenshot 20180604-152157 by JIMENOPOLIX

And while it is cool to see all the princesses together... I do have quite a bit to nitpick about them.

First of all... their CGI designs, at least for the 2D princesses. They look... weird.
Screenshot 20180604-130901 by JIMENOPOLIX

Most of these princesses don't really look like their original selves. I mean, they have the iconic dresses and colors, but something about their CG models doesn't look right.
You have Snow White and Cinderella... and even Pocahontas, who mostly had normal-ish bodies and SMALL eyes... and they just gave them an updated BIG-eye, small body design on their CGI counterparts. The necks, especially, are noticably thinner.

Even Belle looks jarringly different! (Her eyes are TOO large! She looks more like ARIEL!)

But if you think THAT's weird... take a look at the CURRENT CGI Disney Princesses... their model designs are a bit off, too!

I can't quite explain it, but... Elsa just doesn't look right, to me. Must be the hair. Which makes her head appear too large. Also, I think her body may have been shrunken down a bit. Her neck especially looks rather thin.

Not even Anna looks right, to me. She's perhaps the closest looking to the original, but she still looks and feels slightly off.

And the one whom I noticed looked the MOST different out of all of them... Rapunzel.
Screenshot 20180604-130925 by JIMENOPOLIX

You probably don't see it. But upon looking at her face detail, I could tell that's NOT the same model they used for the original film! And to think she was the first CGI Disney Princess, you'd think they'd utilize the same model... but, nope. She looks radically different here, somehow!

Here's a side-by-side comparison.

Like... what is that face? I mean... what even is that face?

You can CLEARLY tell it's not the same model.

But, again, these are just nitpicks of mine. I'm not saying they look horrible or that they completely destroy the film. It's just... stuff I noticed.

My guess is that this was a stylistic choice they made JUST for this movie. Maybe they weren't trying to represent the Princesses "accurately" but instead just creating a slightly different but familiar design style to at least embody them all (literally). Still, there's the fact that they're using the same voice actresses for the Princesses.

I dunno. I guess it's cool that they're bringing all the princesses together in one film together, especially it being a theatrical film by Disney themselves. Not to mention I believe there WAS originally gonna be a Disney film that had the Disney Princesses together and did stuff, but it was cancelled. So I suppose they still had that idea in mind and decided to put it here. It's just that I'm a little thrown off at how different they look.

So... yeah, over all, I'm kind of torn on this.
On the one hand, it's interesting to see more of this world of the internet, interpreted by Disney.

On the other hand... it almost kinda gives Emoji Movie vibes in that we're seeing a whole ton of product placement everywhere (I know, because Emoji Movie did it first). But also because, well, they enter Oh My Disney, which puts a whole lot of focus on Disney properties. Like, half of this trailer focuses on the Oh My Disney site, leading to focusing on a bunch of Disney properties, taking us out from the internet world.

In a sense, it is pretty similar to the first film, as the first film promised game-jumping, jumping to different video game worlds, but instead, the movie takes place in Sugar Rush 80% of the time. While we saw other worlds, like Fix-It Felix, Jr., Pac-Man, Hero's Duty, and even got a bit of game-jumping with Turbo, the majority of the film took place in Sugar Rush, which kind of contradicts the promise of game-jumping everywhere.

I have a similar fear, that the movie and trailers promise exploring the internet, walking around to different sites and exploring the quirks and mayhem that happens in them, but ends up taking place the majority of the time in the Oh My Disney site and that's where we stay the majority of the time. So it defeats the purpose of calling the film "Ralph Breaks the Internet".

But, hey, this is a trailer. And as we all know, not all trailers accurately represent the final product of the film.

And besides, the trailers in the past DID often mislead audiences into thinking most of the film would be littered with video game cameos and Easter Eggs when really they only appeared for a small amount of time, and the rest of the film focused more on characters, story, and plot details, not relying at all on the product placement or cameos.
Perhaps the same thing could happen here; the trailers are only focusing on the product placement and cameos and Easter Eggs, while the rest of the film will focus on other stuff.

In fact, have we even guessed what the moral of the film is going to be? Perhaps it has something to do with the internet trapping every user in the world in it that nobody would ever go outside again, not even to visit Litwak's Arcade. (But that's just a guess)
--
--
Either way, I'm still going to see this film just to see where they go with this. I'm hoping they don't fall into the same trap as The Emoji Movie and be nothing but references and product placement and actually deliver a good story where the internet could play a role.
This trailer both hypes me up and scares me at the same time. But hopefully, once the film comes out, my expectations and hopes may be surpassed. After all, it's the same team who worked on the original. They wouldn't screw it up, now would it?

On a side note, with all that said...

...could there still be a chance MARIO could appear in this film?

after The Emoji movie I'm surprised by how good this movie can turn out to be. I figured since they both have a similar premise about life inside technology full of Easter eggs and product placements that maybe making a movie about life inside the internet would be just as worse as a movie about life inside a cellphone. But after seeing the wreck it Ralph 2 trailer this looks like it's gonna be the funniest and most meta Disney movie ever and I can't wait to see it
